Saw yet another ignorant and condescending European take on ‘who in their right mind would want to emigrate to America’ post.

Well, there’s a reason I’m spending thousands of dollars trying to stay in this country, but I don’t need to share it with people who don’t understand that lots of people have different reasons to emigrate and maybe your own countries are also quite terrible for immigrants.

/r/bayarea: ‘Bay Area drivers are terrible’

‘It’s all the H-1Bs’

I’ll have you know that bad drivers here come from all backgrounds. Ask any pedestrian.

I have #aphantasia and I can’t make visual images in my head. ‘Picture an apple’.. I can’t picture anything. People have asked me how I dream. I don’t have visual dreams.

I just had a dream in which I.. smelled a variety of things. Interesting!

Super gay dude working in Amtrak making small talk: so you excited about Super Bowl??

Me: absolutely not

Him: omg ME NEITHER

More of this please.

Tiera Tanksley published a paper pushing back on the 'only low AI literacy students fear AI' narrative that we are starting to see / hear. She worked with Black highschoolers focusing on data ethics.

"That is, they went from "I'm terrified of AI becoming sentient and killing us" to "I no longer think AI is sentient, but I'm very concerned that these technologies are doing irreparable harm to people and to the environment."

A lawyer specializing in immigration to the US for Singaporeans wrote a blog post about what he thinks will happen if Trump is re-elected.

The long and short of it is he will make things harder for everyone, even 'good immigrants' from ally countries. And he did, in the past.

Pantheon is one of the best animated series I watched recently. I wish it had more marketing and hype, it’s really worth it.

Not really about straight up AI but takes on an ‘uploaded intelligence’ idea that also has parallels with data centers, and real world current day tussles about who gets to make such decisions

Nothing tells me I’ve learned to cook at a level that pleases me, as when I was finally able to do consistently simple dishes really well. One of my comfort foods is spaghetti aglio e olio, and when I finally made one that felt like something I would pay for, that made me happy.

Like when I finally managed to cook all kinds of rice well

I love seeing old film photos of mine. Reminds me of past lives.

From one of the first rolls I ever shot as a teenager: Cambodia in one of the Angkor temples (around 2004)

Something about the colors and ‘look’ of the film photo makes it more visceral to me, like I can remember that memory better

I don’t know who spread the rumor in the west that rice cookers are simply ‘unnecessary single use gadgets for foodies who eat a lot of rice’, I think of them more as ‘versatile device for depressed people with no (emotional, not literal) spoons’

Put rice (don’t even need to wash it), water, place vegetables, meat, tofu, eggs. Add soy sauce. Close the lid. Walk away.

And if you get a nice one: cook rice and eat off the cooker even 3 days later.

Even the cheap ones are so handy.

In San Francisco even the freeway signs are #vegan

I’ve had some pretty violent shit done to me for my racial identity here in San Francisco, but I’m actually much more angry about the guy who house sat for me, left it in a dreadful state, but said he couldn’t clean my house after leaving it in a mess because I was an Oriental Beauty and he was simply a white man who could never live up to my exacting Oriental Beauty standards

(In.. 2022)

(I made him Venmo me for cleaning. He.. left like ten fully burnt potatoes in my oven over a few weeks)

Remember how yesterday I said my fave bánh mì spot in the Tenderloin is at a place that’s more like a Vietnamese senior community center, that I’m not sure I can recommend coz it’s hard to order without Vietnamese?

This is what it looks like.

I love this place.
