I think this is an important thing to grok - there is no reason Bitcoin Core should be bound by “consensus” for things unrelated to Bitcoin’s consensus rules.

Bitcoin Core is a software project with a wallet, a GUI, an RPC API, and an implementation of a P2P network for rumoring blocks and transactions. For all of those things, there’s no reason for Bitcoin Core to only act with “consensus” - can you imagine if they needed consensus of the community to make opinionated decisions in the GUI?!

But specifically on the topic of the P2P layer - Bitcoin Core contributors’ jobs are to be good stewards to that implementation and do what is right for Bitcoin to maximize decentralization and robustness. There’s no debate (except from people who don’t understand Bitcoin) that reducing or removing paternalistic censorial standardness limits is not only good but possibly important for Bitcoin’s long-term decentralization.

There is nothing that says anyone has to run Core, and there is nothing that says Bitcoin Core must only do things when there exists consensus in the broader Bitcoin community, especially when it’s abundantly clear those things are important for Bitcoin.

None of this applies, of course, to Bitcoin’s consensus rules - that sub-project of Bitcoin Core has drastically different constraints.

That is lovely to say, however, the devil is in teasing out what is 'clearly good' or not, of course!

If something catches drama fire, there is a decent chance that alarms about unintended harmful 2nd order effects broaching on the health of Bitcoin or even just progressive entrainment of the contrarians into passivity, or something else is maybe possibly actually valid and the stakes (Bitcoin!) require you to then take a beat to think about it beyond it just being in the category of a GUI change (because maybe just maybe you mischaracterized it as such).

Respect the alarm system, it is a good alarm system. I dgaf if it has rampant false trips, it has saved us from tigers in the past, it will save us from tigers in the future.

I mean unless we all see in our crystal ball that everything is totally totally cool of course.

A negative character arc is one where the protagonist gets worse over time rather than better. They might or might not turn for the better in the end, but the majority of the time is spent on a negative descent.

A well-done example would be Frodo. The ring wears him down through the course of the story.

An example that should have been good but wasn’t executed as well as it should have been, would be Anakin in the Star Wars prequel.

Supply is not the total quantity of money.

If demand increases, price increases, and more plebs sell their sats, which means supply increases.

Different dynamic than production. Price going up does incentivize production in everything else as you say which dampens and stabilizes dramatic upward price movement in those other things. That mechanism is *not* present in Bitcoin because of the difficulty adjustment. The emission schedule is essentially set, which leaves only price to compensate for any increase in demand - not increased production. Drawing more of the already existing coins into the market is not production.

Scarcity and demand are interdependent. An increase in demand can reduce availability, but it also incentivizes production, which can increase supply. This dynamic stabilizes prices and availability over time.
