Secure DMs and groups might be how Nostr wins. Like Signal, but better: no phone number or centralized service provider needed. Actually there are no publicly visible user IDs involved, so in that regard it's similar to simplex.chat.

Unlike public messaging, DMs do not depend on the network effect. Great for onboarding people and keeping them returning with push notifications. They get a bitcoin wallet, zaps and all the other Nostr greatness on the side.

Many people don't want to let go of their existing follower base on X, but "Nostr DMs only" is easier to do. I could imagine that becoming a thing in the Bitcoin scene at first.

I agree. The only thing I’d add here is that we have to do it properly and not hastily. Given our history with DMs, I think this is one area of Nostr that we need to fix, for real.

Is it an imposible task to abstract a template to create standards? Otherwise I think I'd simply get rid with a field for links plus a "verify this proof by yourself clicking here". Maybe I'm wrong though.

That's what I'm saying. The Pavlovian response is seeing the prompt/push notification and with the promise of a $20-30 shitcoin, you have to click through and wait, giving your attention to shitty gaming ads for like a minute before you can actually start "mining", if that's even what it actually is. Just numbers on a screen. So you're paying with your attention and that's the actual energy and "proof of work".

Just busy work while the simulation hums. Or training us for a future of meaningless work and getting paid in nothing to buy worthless crap from the ads your shown doing nothing.

Starting to think Pi Network and other crypto mining operations are just Pavlovian training networks for humans to mine just for the hell of it so there's proof of work in the future when AI takes over everything and there's nothing left to do. Like the company store in a mining town...
