nostr:npub1ls2a7rrsnx2l0g9f300hh9z9s6x9x2luzeuxzvrnutsxxdkunr4qn7g28m I love my Jimbows! I use them on my hammered dulcimer (I don’t have a mountain dulcimer).

Yes I suffer for my art but so does my spouse b/c he works from home and he can’t move about freely or use the bathroom while I’m recording vocals. :sadness:

(The kitties do not suffer for my art; they do whatever tf they want, and I have to just work around them.) :catPOWER:

nostr:npub1f05zcn0zqd9kw5dpcn9vwxf0pausxe37gst2wh5rgeqnqsyq5nts6kgrer I had a fellow indie artist who is only on streaming actually make fun of me for having a Bandcamp page. Joke's on him; he may have over 1,000 streams on his song on Spotify, but I've made $40-50 on Bandcamp, compared to his (I'm guesstimating here) *maybe* $4 or $5 from streaming.

Actually, when I think about the typical costs associated with making music, that is actually on the low end/indie budget side still. I've seen guidelines estimating that on a SHOESTRING/Indie budget, expect to pay about $1000 per song (and that's if you're doing a whole album, where you can typically get a better deal per song as a result).

nostr:npub1lvqskkm8ldzyf035ehtax635nr4jtea920acjaspgd9dwje8mj9sd9dw89 I had not heard of them, so thanks for the link!

It doesn't look like something that I'd prefer over CDBaby, currently. Have you used their services?

Yes! I record, produce, and mix my music in my basement β€œstudio,” but that doesn’t mean it’s free: I pay for all my studio equipment (some is subscription/rental, so an on-going cost) & pro feedback. Other artists pay for studio rental, producers, recording and mixing engineers, session musicians, etc.

And I pay a pro mastering engineer & artists to do the artwork.

Then there are the legal fees associated with business licensing & copyright registration. It adds up fast!

nostr:npub1qruzzk4l49ht50202u0kgtdyhtvknqqwpvdtu2m4csd2hww5x7hshr8lu4 Yes, generally independent artists go through a digital distributor--a necessary middle man--that takes either an up-front fee, or a percentage of streaming sales (sometimes both!). Major labels handle their own distribution b/c they have royalty collection agreements/deals with each streaming platform.

I use CDbaby, but there are other digital distributors like DistroKid or TuneCore.
