During the first Cold War you had to be a Russian expert. For this Cold War, you need to be a China expert. A Russian expert can’t become a China expert over night. You have to have lived there. Spoken the language. Deeply understand the CCP and how it affects Chinese culture. You also have to be an expert in information technology to understand how the CCP is building its empire. In short, you’ve got a lot of work to do.

That’s hogwash. If the Taiwanese want independence why would we oppose it? We fought for our own independence. We don’t have to go looking for trouble, but neither should we allow our policies to be shaped by a tyrannical dictatorship. The Soviet Union could have said the same thing regarding West Berlin.
