Government overreach and control through #surveillance mirrors the oppressive tactics used by authoritarian regimes, like the Soviet Union, to stifle dissent and monitor citizens. The concern is that increasing surveillance, justified under the guise of protecting children or enforcing #security, can lead to significant curtailments of individual #freedom and #anonymity, echoing the power structures of past regimes that sought control over all aspects of life. The #Gulags serve as a historical reminder of the dangers of unchecked state power, and the implementation of Digital ID and online surveillance could be seen as a modern-day parallel, where the state and corporations could potentially misuse data and remove #privacy in a similar bid for control. Here in Perth the local WAPOL road pirates have automated their revenue raising with GReed cameras.
However the people have made their feelings known about the money grabbing apparatus quite clearly.
Here in WA revenue has sky-rocketed from speed camera fines but it has done absolutely nothing to reduce the road toll. Clearly it's not working but since they keep raking in the cash they won't phase them out any time soon.
Hats off to the legendary artists that render these flash for cash machines useless.
