I have the same slight overhang on my topper because I was too cheap to buy a new one that’s the exact fit.

Used as a garage heater. Power cost is $0.07/kwh. Now I don’t want to unplug. Garage is like 90 degrees.

Step 8: The moment of truth. I plugged the PDU into the outlet and the screen showed 240V of power. I plugged my 2 power cables from the miner into the PDU and fired it up. Accessed the miner via the IP address and pointed it at nostr:nprofile1qqsq9k04vahllseell55m74n3047y88pzlr0z5yany32st29fapqmgspz4mhxue69uhkummnw3ezummcw3ezuer9wchsz8thwden5te0dehhxarj9e3xjarrda5kuetj9eek7cmfv9kz7cgdh76 pool. I’m hashing now and heating my garage in the process. Future plans include possibly building a box for soundproofing, firmware upgrades, etc. Ultimately I’d love to convert it to hydro cooled and tie into my water heater inlet as a way to prime heat my water heater.

Step 7: I ran a line of cat5e from my switch (in my utility room on the backside of this wall) to my outlet location. I terminated the garage side with a cat5e keystone in a surface mount because it was easier than cutting another outlet but nicer looking than just having a loose cable running through. Then I terminated the end at the switch with an RJ45 connector.

Step 6: I used the strip gauge on the breaker and appropriately stripped both hots. I fastened them into the breaker BEFORE installing the breaker into the panel. Once I ensured everything was nice and tight and routed neatly, I placed the cover back on the panel and flipped power back on.

Step 5: This was the intimidating part. Make sure you cut the power to the panel prior to sticking your hands in there. I used a 3/4” knock out in the back right corner of my panel and ran my wire into place. I stripped the pink jacket back. Again, the neutral is not used, so I capped it with a wire nut and tucked it out of the way. Trimmed my 2 hots to the proper length where they line up with the new 30A double pole breaker.

Step 4: I screwed the outlet into the box ensuring my screws would not contact any hot wires. Placed the faceplate on the outlet. I’ll mud the drywall patch at a later date.

Step 3: I trimmed my wires to length so that I had some slack, but not enough to crowd the box. I used the strip gauge on the receptacle to strip the proper amount off the jacket of each wire. Used my remaining ground wire to ground the receptacle and then fastened the 2 hots.

Step 2: I fastened my box in place. Used the 3/4” knock out and placed a 3/4” threaded wire clamp, and stripped the excess jacket off the wires. The L6-30 receptacle uses the 2 hot wires but does not use the neutral, so I capped the neutral wire with a wire nut and tucked it into the back of the box. Because the box is metal, you need to ground the box. I created a loop and used a grounding screw to ground the box.

Step 1: After doing the research, I bought 25’ of 10/3 Romex wire, an L6-30 receptacle, a double gang metal outlet box with a single gang mud ring (I’ll show those in other comments). Prior to starting this project, I verified that I had room on my panel to make this work. I located a spot close to the panel where the outlet made sense. I cut the hole and fished the wire from the panel to my outlet location.

The Heatpunk summit at nostr:nprofile1qqstfkyq0m0l5v2ddqnft8paccmgrmzeea2l87nj0846rerdzgla98cpzamhxue69uhkvun9deejumn0wd68yvfwvdhk6tcprdmhxue69uhkummnw3ezummjv9hxwetsd9kxctnyv4mz7v5w0m8 inspired me. So I wired a line of 240V to heat my garage. I will post the steps I took in the comments to this post. But I just want to say, “you can just do things” and “I am a Heatpunk!”
