Telegram is at least half-decent even if it's cloud based. I tend to use Signal for peeps I know (and can convince) or Session for people who care but I wanna stay anon with.
It is satisfying haha!
I sadly pretty much have to use WhatsApp because it's become the standard instead of SMS here, but I use contact scopes permission in Graphene so it only sees the numbers I want it to.
I like setting up split tunnelling at the router level so that for example all BitTorrent traffic always goes through the router even if I forget to connect on the device itself. Especially useful for things like Stremio on smart TVs or streaming sticks.
Same. I used to run a Matrix server implementation (pretty sure it was lighter than Synapse) running on a RaspPi 4. Was a fun project but I just never used it.
Loving it so far but I'll see how I get on with it over the next month. I'll try get it running on my Unifi router too.
To celebrate Conversations being back on the Play Store and to deny Google their 15% cut I made the app free for the next ~48 hours. 😜
If you are new here: Check out #XMPP. It's federated, provider and vendor independent instant messaging. It’s great!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.siacs.conversations
Or get it from #fdroid - That version even has address book integration and public channel discovery! 😂
I used to run an XMPP server, had fun with it, but sadly hardly anyone else I knew used it.
If it was more widely used I'd definitely jump on it again. Conversations in particular has OMEMO E2EE on by default too. It's based on the Signal Protocol iirc.
Testing out Mullvad VPN
Impressed so far
Simple, private, fast, FOSS clients.
Finally getting around to updating this bot with new quotes!
Later today I'll fix the NIP-05, just a config change I forgot a while back.
Yes. It's on the IzzyOnDroid repo. Which is good because the official F-Droid one is slowwww at pushing updates.
I am posting this from Amethyst on GrapheneOS right now. Works great. I get updates from Obtainium. There's a build without Google services but it still shows notifications if you want them.
We don't indeed. But even despite the huge clash, it didn't cause massive drama on Nostr like that GitHub issue. Which is funny when the core userbases of fedi and Bluesky are basically the same.
Also worth noting, on semi-decentralised federated social media like Mastodon, you can block entire instances. So even with this bridge you could block entire domains because you don't like some users on it. Happens all the time on Mastodon.
We lack that filter here, we just have to block the entire fedi bridge from our feeds, which is actually a shame because there are chill people on there I still follow on Nostr. A lot of them run their own instances. Usually Pleroma rather than Mastodon tho. Same protocol, Pleroma is just cheaper to host, more customisable, and is usually where based people hang out.
Ironically the people you really don't want (actual Nazis and shit) are more likely to use Mastodon just to troll.
Love getting my hands on those older enterprise laptops. Most companies seem to throw em out after only 4-5 years. Still plenty of life in them especially on Linux. Enjoy the machines.
Meanwhile Nostr has had an ActivityPub bridge for ages and it's caused very little drama despite them being very different communities.
This is funny though because I've used both Mastodon and Bluesky and the userbases are practically identical 😂
Both are just full of woke shit. So much infighting in that group 😂
You are 100% right. In fact despite my frustrations, I consider it bullish. They've been trying to sell the "Bitcoin is for criminals" line ever since Silk Road got bust in 2013. The market clearly doesn't care. But they clearly have no other cards to play at this point.
