That’s a good point. Something that’s gone through my head a few times this year. So far I’m enjoying the simplicity of cooking meat and eggs so I guess time will tell. Should probably try to add some variety in how I cook different types, cuts, etc.

The simplest of carnivore dinners and not pretty but something I could eat for just about every meal. Ground beef, salt, an egg and tiny bit of hot sauce. #foodstr #carnivore #meat #grownostr

Planning for some cows here.

Been listening to #[0] speak a lot on AI lately. This one seems a bit alarming. Talk about instilling fear and programming children..

“The pilot project, the school district says, uses AI to extensively monitor each student and then sound the alarm if a student deviates from his “baseline” behavior”

IPPs are starting to look better after their dose of Ivermectin but we lost two of the Guinea hog piglets.

We’ve had some tough luck with our first pigs but will continue to move forward and learn from our mistakes. Fortunately the others are starting takeoff in size. Still should have no issues filling a few freezers come winter. #homesteading #pigs #grownostr #farm #livestock

Turns out that when we brought in the IPP piglets we also brought in mange mites. I noticed that they had a tendency of scratching when we got brought them here but they looked healthy and it didn’t seem excessive. Little did I know that this was just the beginning of a much larger issue.

Fast forward a little over a month and the a litter of piglets in the meantime from our Guineas and we discovered pretty clearly that all had the scratching issue and began to show the typical symptoms of scaly skin and some sores. Some worse than others and some not at all.

While I try to stay as natural as possible and medication free - I decided to treat all with an ivermectin injection. From everything I read, this is the quickest most effective method for eliminating mites.

All went fairly well with the most difficult part being catching and avoiding mama pig.

Lesson learned for all livestock moving forward: Separate stock brought in from the outside for a period of time before introducing to the rest. #homesteading #pigs #livestock #lessonlearned #farm #grownostr

Covering some of the garden as we expect a frost tonight. Temps expected to touch 30. Was 80 yesterday here in PA. #homesteading #gardening #spring #grownostr

One of our IPPs has a pretty nasty gash in its side. I’m not sure about the cause but maybe a bite from our sow. Thought it could be from an old piece of fence but doesn’t seem to be likely with how she’s cut.

Read that peroxide is helpful so gave her a good spray last night. Seems to be doing fine.

Anyone else have experience with pig wounds? #homesteading #pigs #grownostr

Pigs are great for many reasons but if you want to keep things nice do not put them anywhere near.

They have now discovered the overflowing water tank from our ram pump and decided to dig a mud hole to wallow in. #homesteading #pigs #grownostr

Carnivores can have a drink here and there too. Happy Friday🍻 #homesteading #grownostr #beer

Our guinea hog piglets and IPPs have become best friends. This is how they are often found sleeping.

Still debating how many of the guineas we’ll actually keep once weaned but they do make for some good entertainment running amongst the other pigs and chickens. #homesteading #pigs #livestock #grownostr
