We actually don’t use minerals. Their diet is primarily feed, table scraps and whatever they naturally forage.
I guess my setting was a bit misleading haha as that’s where I typically feed them so it’s pretty bare and probably not very appealing to dig up. They have most of their pen dug up which I don’t mind because we had all sorts of thick underbrush that they’re clearing out.
Interesting point though. I could definitely see that as a way to lessen their need to root
Our first year raising pigs has been up and down. Here’s a recap of our experience so far. #pigs #homesteading #livestock #grownostr
Looks awesome!! Nice job
Appreciate that!
Trying to start something new while working the typical 9-5 is tough but I’ve committed to staying consistent as I’d regret not giving this a shot.
I must say I’m having fun with the learning aspect of this and have enjoyed the challenge so far. Don’t think I’ll be winning an award anytime soon but can already feel progress being made as far as quality and comfort. #grownostr #homesteading #vlog

Not yet as we’re still pretty new to the sheep thing. Working on growing the flock and harvesting for our own use but the goal will be to sell some meat as well
Had a random thought while driving home from work the other day that I should start a YouTube channel…so I just did it without much thought.
The first videos probably suck and it certainly felt strange talking to nobody but it feels good to just start something on a whim and we’ll see where it leads us.
Any comments, feedback (good and bad) and support is greatly appreciated! #homesteading #grownostr #youtube
The simplicity of carnivore eating. Meat, salt, butter is all you need. Full disclosure I did add some veggies for the family. #carnivore #meat #beef #grownostr
Had this guy walk right through the yard and down the road the other day #bear #homesteading #grownostr

Never thought of that - thanks for the suggestion. We have a pond loaded with them
He finds a way to get muddier every day. Also really starting to put some size on.
We are at a point where we’re going through a lot of feed so I mixed in a bit of corn as a way to keep costs down a little. Will still result in a much better product than anything you can find in the store as they have free reign to forage and root all day. #grownostr #homesteading #carnivore #pigs
Appreciate that. I did have some poly wire inside the fence to sort of move them around this spring. It did work well. Unfortunately our setup is with woven wire as the perimeter. I haven’t had a ton of breakouts but if it continues I’ll probably run a wire along the bottom
I do not. Part of the future plan though. Pigs and sheep for now with some runs of chicken each year.
Pigs are becoming quite the escape artists #homesteading #pigs #carnivore #grownostr
Today we processed 45 chickens and all I have to show is a picture of the coolers….
Once we get going there’s no stopping. Took just short of two hours to harvest. Let them sit in the walk in cooler for most of the day then parted out this evening. Always a good day packing some meat in the freezer. #homesteading #chickens #meat #carnivore #grownostr
