Well worth the work and the wait! Have about 90 lbs of grind to make sausage later this fall. Looking forward to that!
Put our big boar in the freezer this weekend. Was a little too much to handle getting hooked onto the scale so I took a measurement and he came in at 446 lbs.
I’ve found that this method is pretty accurate. For those that don’t know:
- measure the girth around the heart
- measure the length from base of the ears to tail.
- estimated weight = (Girth x girth x length) / 400
Oh and pigs yield about 60% meat

Took the ram head from butchering a few months back and used it as a “maggot bucket” to feed our chickens and also clean it off to save the mount.
