GM. Took a few days off nostr but with so much technical and social possibility it's hard to go much longer. Looking forward today to further work on noswot and nip-index.

Noswot is in that young/experimental state where it's more potential than usable. I mean you can probably find some new accounts to follow with it but what's exciting about it is envisioning a future where the town square can be truly global, yet filtered in a smart way by your social graph. High signal, low noise and all possible client-side. #weboftrust

Nip-index is my attempt to understand how nostr is developing on a protocol level. I've enjoyed being able to run mirror.sh and see, in a single commit, all merged changes across all the NIPs. Think I'm going to add the #nostrocket NIPs to the index to see how it all holds up when looking at multiple data sources.

Anyone got a glossary of nostr terms? Would you like one? #asknostr

Apple broken playlists in Music by adding a new song add flow that takes more steps and prioritizes song suggestions over what I'm trying to add. Are they trying to further monetize a paying customer? Thinking of buying all the CDs and running my own streaming server. #selfhosted

Idea: Sound of Nostr - a site that converts various kinds and content lengths into different instruments in real-time. Where have I seen this before? 🤔

I'd probably code a widget that loads the long form posts from my favorite relay. Did something simple to load my profile at davidsterry.com/nostr

There's also WordPress plugin that could use more testing.

Right, the question you have to ask yourself as a supporter is is this guy good for five bucks or twenty if he's on a roll with 4 good posts. There's no feedback that matches a hard money pledge.

A friend is looking for a way to charge supporters (in the patreon sense) per post. I've seen various mentions of paywalls and zap gates and subscriptions but does any fit this sort of publication process? #asknostr

He thinks a guaranteed payout each time he presses post will be a good motivator to create more and better quality content.

Hang on, I'm waiting for CEO approval to joke.

Thank you for being here by the way. I think it is an important point because like most things, Nostr is teetering in this out of control way, with an epic issue right now attempting to coordinate on some small details when really it's better to embrace the chaos, spell out alternative sets of rules wherever there is conflict and let the experiments play out. The possibilities are endless as they should be.

In order for us to to achieve the full vision of Nostr we need it to be for everybody, not just the current bitcoiner community.

nostr:nprofile1qqs8d3c64cayj8canmky0jap0c3fekjpzwsthdhx4cthd4my8c5u47sprpmhxue69uhhyetvv9ujucm4wfex2mn59en8j6f0qy2hwumn8ghj7unnwvhxummn9eek7cmfv9kz7qgkwaehxw309ajkgetw9ehx7um5wghxcctwvshsfml8dl recently gave a talk at Nostrasia, diving into how we're tackling this. It's not just about adding new features; it's about creating a space where everyone feels they belong and can share their voice without worry.

We're exploring community-managed moderation because we believe the best people to understand what's appropriate for a community are its members. It's about giving you the tools to help keep things friendly and respectful.

If you're curious about the specifics or want to hear our thoughts on balancing safety with diverse community norms, take a look at nostr:nprofile1qqs8d3c64cayj8canmky0jap0c3fekjpzwsthdhx4cthd4my8c5u47sprpmhxue69uhhyetvv9ujucm4wfex2mn59en8j6f0qy2hwumn8ghj7unnwvhxummn9eek7cmfv9kz7qgkwaehxw309ajkgetw9ehx7um5wghxcctwvshsfml8dl 's full talk here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pGZ2epF8ZY

We're all ears for any thoughts or suggestions you might have after watching. Let's make Nostr better, together.

For years this has been a theme in decentralized systems. People attribute a kind of agency to it, saying this system was made for X or "we" should do Y or Z isnt the point of the system..

You see it whenever a CEO is mentioned or when there's a big effort for a flag day.

The reality is there's me and the rules I agree with. Then there's you and the rules you agree with. If compatible we can talk.

There's no "we" in decentralized systems. Decentralized is a technical attribute.

"We," the collective entity as a social construct, exists only in a social context.

Widgets plus documented and paid APIs on relays. Not sure we need to worry about scale yet though. Retention is I think the greatest nostrtunity.

My man nostr:npub1mz3vx0ew9le6n48l9f2e8u745k0fzel6thksv0gwfxy3wanprcxq79mymx is here at the meetup and said that he has over 100 AI bots for us to use on his AI bot "store". 👀

Tried a graphic one and it worked. Still not totally my thing but waiting to find a problem for which they're a good fit.

I really like QR codes, I would just never put a private key in one as it makes them too easy to steal.

If I maintained a client I'd keep it open as a possibility because delegation removes the need to copy private keys between devices. No longer need to copy keys in any form, could be made to work with a hardware device, and the cryptography is simple, so why not try it?

Ideally idiomatic nostr, it's times like this more crypto knowledge would be useful. At least it's easy to bandy about terms like Schnorr and accumulator. Communities or like you said a server may be the way to do it as v1. nostr:npub1l2vyh47mk2p0qlsku7hg0vn29faehy9hy34ygaclpn66ukqp3afqutajft says nSecBunker.com could be used.

The idea I'm thinking of is a bespoke community based on place. I post a QR code somewhere and then people can join a community around Trafalgar Square or Central Park and anyone could post in it and your normal moderation tooling (WoT?) or blocks would apply. Like a physical town square. The thing that would be nice however is a revocable secret required to join so only people who'd physically been there and scanned a current QR code could join.

I like the idea of clients doing it themselves but it takes a fair amount of bandwidth so yeah it could definitely be a paid service. Seems like it'll be possible to check a sample of the graph and scores to make sure the service isn't misreporting. Keep 'em coming. I think the possibility of it what's made it so fun.

Thanks to nostr:npub1gempv37k4kumtqsxqkpcg9hcgkvewprq9sztqj95ea7d46hyqyhsmvwg3m for the first bit of feedback on noswot. Made some small changes and will continue to build out more transparency and tools to verify what's shown.

I don't understand either but here's a link to it in case someone wants to provide a fresh perspective. https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/26.md

Changed the title text on the scored page so let me know if that makes it any clearer. It's a bit hard to compare with other kinds of lists people tend to see.

Excellent, the list of users starts with most trusted in the network made from the people you follow, and who they follow, and so on.

Currently it's most usable to browse the trusted and see who else you might want to follow.

Or click pleb mode and you'll browse deeper into the network to find lesser known accounts that are still not spammers or junk.

Is there a way to create a shared nostr account, sort of like a multisig where a large number of people could post under the same npub? Schnorr is in play is it not? #asknostr

Updated nip-index to include quick links at the top. Handy when you already know which NIP# you want to read up on. Thanks nostr:npub1504jj42t6flu5l6n7e389e9mt8gxduhnzuyv7dq4gr95w20mmpqscx0cg0 for the suggestion.

Today I'm extremely excited to share a project that's been on my mind for years and is now ready for you to try.

Introducing noswot.

Since I first got into decentralized social networks I always thought moderation was a sore spot. I couldn't forget systems like Slashdot's metamoderation, and the potential behind webs of trust which seem so much closer to how pre-internet communities work. What was always missing was a place with energy and bravery to try new things and that made it fun build.

Nostr is that community and noswot has been a blast to build. noswot is a database web application because that's what I do but my hope, and I express it better in the readme, is that a version of its algorithm will find its way into every client or system that needs to trust strangers on the internet. I say hope but really this is an experiment so think of noswot as a trial on the quest for truth.

Please try it out, ask questions, start hacking, and report any bugs here or in the tracker.
