thank you for encouragement. #nostr is truly something else.
the problem was that in my cfg files (naturally copied from git)
one server section had ssl_prefer_server_ciphers "on" and the other "off"
when I switched both "on" (which sounded more secure) everything works jus fine (at least as far as I can see)
I think I figured it out!!!!
Conflict yes but weird one. It is late here (or early depends how you look) so I will recheck tomorrow and post my findings

Weirdly I have two conf files on two domains that work separately but one stops working if the other is present.
Self hosting is so much fun I almost forget that half of my working services work only half.
