In 2018 a pseudonymous pleb going by the name Pip hid a whopping 310 #BTC in a single abstract image. Pip hid the massive bounty across four wallets explaining that the puzzle was created “to make someone else happy” having themselves already amassed a ton of bitcoin as an early adopter. To crack the code participants were required to have a combination of skills including image manipulation, bytecode manipulation, text encoding and cryptography. The puzzle was solved in the year it was released by someone known as Marc.

GM. In 2018 Concrete Games, masquerading as Gem Rose Accent, created an atmospheric steampunk puzzle game – Monetecrypto. It consisted of 24 "mind-bending enigmas" where the first player to solve all 24 puzzles would be awarded 1 #BTC.
Upon entering the game, players landed in a lobby with three exits. As soon as one walked through one of the exits, it began a 60-minute timer that forced the game to restart when the time ran out. Each puzzle, or "enigma", was solved by completing a certain task in order to obtain a keyword. Once all 24 keywords were collected, the wallet could be opened and the bitcoin could be obtained.
Players were encouraged to take any approach in order to pursue the enigma's solutions, whether as a lone wolf or as a contributor to one of the many groups trying to out-solve one another, or by simply hacking the game client. A group of solvers eventually solved all enigmas in an astonishing 63 days.

GM. In 2015 artist Marguerite De Courcelle otherwise known as Coin_Artist released TORCHED H34R7S (1FLAMEN6), a painting inspired by Shakespeare’s poem The Pheonix and the Turtle. The 1601 poem is known to some as the first great metaphysical poem as the two protagonists die. Interpretations vary but it is assumed that the poem charts an unrealised love affair between two birds – a phoenix and a turtledove - who represent truth and beauty. Its tragic end is countered with a hopeful prayer that this ideal union will re-emerge – like a phoenix from the ashes. Part of De Courcelle’s ‘The Legend of Satoshi Nakamoto’ series, her painting contained 4.87 #BTC hidden inside. To solve the puzzle, one had to look carefully for symbols and codes. In the rows of flames at the edge of the canvas, a series of zeros and ones were encoded. The colour and shape of each flame made up a four-character piece of the binary series. A further part of the code was represented by six ribbons in the bottom right-hand corner. The puzzle-solver was required to link the zeros and ones together and then translate them into the private key. The puzzle was finally solved in 2018.
