In Bryony's opinion, things are worse. Technology is slowly disappearing, and people are getting more and more superstitious, which makes disease and other maladies much more dangerous.

In the opinion of the ruling angels, things are better. Because they're in charge, they get to eat whoever the hell they want, and the planet they swiped from humans is looking much greener.
