Software engineer, outdoor enthusiast, occasional ham radio operator, aspiring hunter and homesteader, bitcoiner, neopagan druid, used to race sailboats, too many hobbies to list. Based in Northern Virginia. I don't like, only zap.

Yep, and I know nothing of Kate Bush other than she had a song that was really popular in Stranger Things last year. Would she have been an nominee before that? I don't know. The rest of them (aside from Missy Elliott. In her case, I am not the target audience, so I don't know the influences she may have made), I'm good with, though I might have waited a while for Rage, given that Zevon, who started his career in the 1970's, and influenced a LOT of people even if he isn't a household name, still isn't a member.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced it's list of inductees for 2023. https://www.rockhall.com/rock-roll-hall-fame-announces-2023-inductees

I don't want to take anything away from those performers, many of whom clearly deserve it, but it kils me that Warren Zevon, who was near the top of the fan voting last I looked, didn't make it. I had the honor of seeing him twice at Tipitina's in New Orleans in the early to mid '90s, and his music was a shared interest with my late father.

Happy Sunday Nostr.

Rainy day here on the "compound", so it's a lazy morning, then the kids and I are going to a birthday party after lunch. I could drop them off for the Mario Brothers movie, but they've already seen it, and I haven't, so I'll go too.

This will be the second movie I've seen in a theater this month, but only the 4th since 2020. I enjoy the experience of going, but not enough to go see movies either the kids, my girlfriend or I are really into.

So what was the last movie you saw in the theater?

Good morning,

Looks like I missed a lot WRT NIP94/95 while I was off Nostr for a while. Has the idea of something like NIP94 for sharing WebTorrent hashes been proposed as an alternative? It seems distributed file sharing is a solved problem, why reinvent the wheel AND put extra stress on relays?

Good morning Nostr!

Today is "write your performance review" day for me. I hate these exercises, I'm really good at the "what could you have done better" part, but I have a hard time claiming, say, that I saved the company millions of dollars because I automated the TPS reports, so they no longer had to have people come in on Saturdays to finish them up.

So wish me luck. #grownostr, #corporategrind

Good morning Nostr.

Coffee has been delayed today, had to do fasting bloodwork, and I prefer my coffee with cream. Finally getting it now.

note1774afvunptxlng47ay2u0x6xp3gsjzwm8hmzvtag0ptyddcx5dlsqhgluq got me thinking. I've had two people in my life not too long ago in diametrically opposed health positions. One healthy but with dementia to where they didn't know who they were, the other wracked by disease but still mentally sharp, at least when the diseases didn't mess with their body chemistry enough to make them loopy.

My ex-wife and I discussed a lot which of the positions we'd rather be in. From a selfish perspective, obviously the first, but with friends, family, and kids in mind, obviously the latter.

#[0] did something in the (web) interface change to no longer show the connected relays at the top, or is my browser going wonky?

Good, well, almost noon, Nostr. Today I go on-call for a week, so I'm running out to grab a quick lunch, then I probably won't be touching Nostr except early mornings and late evenings, until next Tuesday. Wish me luck.

It also looks like some clients allow you to follow hashtags, but it's not universal.

Primarily infrastructure on the backend of our stack, plus some work on CI/CD to make our automated deployments more robust.

Goodnight Nostr. Been a busy day working in the IT mines. (I was going to say bit mines, but that has different connotations around here) Going to be another busy one tomorrow. I'll have to think about what sort of "touch grass" type activities I can do next weekend.

Report back on how that goes. I'd think it won't have much advantage, until you publicize it.

I think that may be client-dependent. Because the post below this in my grownostr feed capitalizes the N.

Fair. I'm actually not set up with a bow yet, but I'm helping my daughter practice in hopes of taking a white tail deer this fall. She's got the full, expensive hunting bow, but I'm not going to let her take a shot unless 4/5 shots at that distance are within a paper plate sized target. And I know her first shot at an animal is unlikely to be as good as she is capable of. The excitement/nervousness is real.

The cases I've heard about were all two-step processes. 1) create a company to own the real estate 2) invest in the company in the IRA. My parents did something like this, though it was with a group for a real estate development deal. It was a paperwork nightmare, I think, and mom just took all of it out last year as her RMD + penalty withdrawal (she's in her 70s) to simplify things. Though a lot of that is because the actual deal hasn't gone anywhere. The shareholders had to sue the organizer, so she had a ton of "on paper" money that wasn't likely to ever be worth anything increasing her RMD every year.
