Insights on dual citizenship, passports, freedom, and sovereignty. Lawyer at Malakouti Law.

Broadly speaking…

the hardest thing about citizenship by INVESTMENT is having the money to spend. 😅

The hardest thing about citizenship by DESCENT is a) properly screening whether you have the right ancestry and b) getting all the required docs.

The hardest thing about citizenship after RESIDENCY is a) spending the minimum physical presence in country and b) possible tax residency as a result of that physical presence.

33. What citizenships by descent do Americans qualify for?

Due to a combination of recent changes in law and migration patterns, there are now literally millions of Americans who qualify for citizenship by descent in Italy, Poland, Ireland, Hungary, and Slovakia each.

We estimate hundreds of thousands of thousands of Americans qualify for citizenship by descent in Armenia, Austria, Croatia, Mexico, Slovenia, Romania, and Bulgaria each.

GM, smells like #dualcitizenship in the air today.

Stateless —> inability to travel int’ly & difficulty banking, getting licensing, opening biz, studying or working domestically.

Single citizen —> residency right in only 1 country, vulnerability to sudden war, economic collapse, ethnic persecution, + sovereign-based passport attack vectors

Dual citizen —> highest right of entry & residency in 2 countries, 2 passports, elimination of single point of sovereignty failure, 2 separate national identities to pick from when traveling to 3rd countries

Here are my observations as a global mobility lawyer about why Americans are pursuing second citizenship. 👇

In short, it’s increased remote work + urge for Plan B.

Why should we take your word for it.

We don’t even know what your PhD is in.

If you turn your back on #dualcitizenship content then I say you, ser, make neither merry nor mirth.

You may not have heard of a SEMI-CITIZENSHIP.

They’re a bit of an oddity in the global

mobility world.

Only some people qualify for them, but they can be a powerful mobility asset for people looking for maximum freedom of movement.

Here are 6 semi-citizenships and their benefits. 👇

- Poland

- Slovakia

- Armenia

- India

- Ethiopia

- Lithuania

A passport attack vector in full effect. 👇

Many people take for granted that being a citizen somewhere means necessarily having easy access to the passport.

That’s not the case at all.

There are several categories of very real and common threats to the ability of someone to obtain, renew, or possess a valid passport from their country of citizenship.

26. What is citizenship by descent?

Citizenship by descent is acquisition (or verification) of citizenship based on a person’s ancestry from a given country. While the idea is simple enough, there are a number of different ways countries offer citizenship by descent.

There are millions of Americans who quality for citizenship by descent in a European country without knowing it.
