2. Install it on your desktop computer or laptop (Windows, OSX and Linux)
3. Wait for the software to download the blockchain (WARNING: It's more than a 300 GB download) which could take anywhere from days to weeks
4. When you're set, connect your bitcoin wallet to your node and start verifying your own transactions
Running a #lightning #node requires your #bitcoin funds to be locked in for the entire period of the channel that is using it.
Having more funds means you can open more and bigger channels.
Channels smaller than 1 million sats are too small (in our opinion) and thus much harder to make up the costs associated with opening them.
If you can't run a lightning node because of lack of funds or for any other reason, at least try to run a bitcoin only node.
