If the argument is that "translators and localizers can notice nuances and cultural differences" then why did the localizers miss most of the cultural jokes in Shikanoko? Why does FF14 have plot points that only became clear after 8 years due to poor translation, even though the localization team claims to also be trying to understand the world behind the game?

Could it be that they're just not as precise as a machine? Could it be they are biased against the cultural they are trying to translate from? Maybe they think themselves smart enough to adapt things to an audience that doesn't want an adaption, but just a translation.
