Now that there's a lot more traffic on Mastodon, I think I might have a go at making these 3D visualisations for Fediverse conversations.

🆕 blog! “ChubbyCable USB-C Review”
★★★★☆
The good folk at ChubbyCable have sent me a trio of gorgeous USB-C cables to review. If, like me, your work colleagues always "borrow" your cables never to be seen again - these are a godsend. They're available in a range of colours - you can even design your own. You'll never have to say […]

Gah! Why doesn't #GoogleDocs have #TTS built in?
I just want to click a button and have Google Cloud's text-to-speech read a bit of text from a Google Doc. Why is that impossible?!?!?!?!
(Not here for your sToP UsINg GoOgLe hot takes. Tell it to my client.)
My mum's in the latest series of #Starstruck!
Episode 3, just after the opening credits.

The reason ChatGPT is so useful is because most documentation is so shit.

What a bunch of shits.
nostr:npub19lt4284mghqxekzm6n5njxurnxrxhqhrva2leusdsuu5ja5jeycq66qfjk well, that part I don't know sorry
I just it for PDF generation but it's for sure headless and scriptable
nostr:npub1a2wavd2stmzzjp4sktquz7t6rcc80hnwarn6gh234cjmv7fgvzfqnm66cj OK.
So, just a gentle reminder - when people ask a question, there's no need to reply if you're not sure of the answer.

I can't launch Chrome. I'm working on a headless box.
That's why I'm using Selenium.
Before I ask ChatGPT for suggestions…
There's a website which has a download button.
The button dynamically generates a "blob" which is then downloaded.
I want to use #Selenium's Chrome Webdriver to "click" that button and save the file to a specific location.
Is that possible without lots of funky JS injection?
nostr:npub19lt4284mghqxekzm6n5njxurnxrxhqhrva2leusdsuu5ja5jeycq66qfjk can't you transfer anyway? The amount you've renewed already usually comes with...
nostr:npub19kdxqvj7x7lnkq7quf2x7795cdx6z000zknqfs4tzjmqejdcreusnv4jdw oh, I thought it didn't? Given there's usually a cost to transfer, I think I'll just wait it out.
nostr:npub19lt4284mghqxekzm6n5njxurnxrxhqhrva2leusdsuu5ja5jeycq66qfjk I need to do the same at this point and all my Gandi domains are coming up soon. Is porkbun the place to go?
nostr:npub1egn2d74rlh0hc44q6gyvhd8zdzm0dytrjtf9yhmjdlwtrwrn7d4q5nna5r They seem both cheap and competent.
There are a few TLDs that they don't have. And they tend to send a few too many ".whatever is on sale!!!" emails for my liking.
But, yeah, they're good.
A couple of years ago, I renewed most of my domains for 10 years.
Seemed like the cheapest way to do things.
Looks like #Gandi has more than DOUBLED the price of the remaining ones. So they're being transferred to #PorkBun.
🆕 blog! “On The Fediverse, No One Knows You're A Liar”
One of the reasons I'm still on the original Mastodon.social instance is that I am vain. I joined shortly after the project was announced and, as a consequence, I have a "joined" date of 2016 and a user ID of under 10,0001. This doesn't make me an "elder statesman" and is rarely useful beyond bra…

Are you able to select the text in the image on this page?
https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2014/08/selecting-text-in-images-pure-svg-no-javascript/
I wrote this experiment back in 2014 and I'm keen to know how well it works on modern browsers.
(I know iOS does automatic text recognition, but this should work cross-platform.)
nostr:npub19lt4284mghqxekzm6n5njxurnxrxhqhrva2leusdsuu5ja5jeycq66qfjk I've used my reMarkable2 everyday for the past few years as a my daily calendar, as a way to review journal papers, (with some caveats) as a book reader, a game board, and as an infinite notebook to scribble in. it is not an iPad, so you need to have very different expectations for use. no email, no web, no interactive programs. just very readable text and low-latency pen action.

Interesting. I already have a few offline eink devices which I love.
But I do need a side light. And I don't handwrite.
Looks like a gorgeous device - but not right for me.
Anyone here got a #remarkable2 and want to convince me - one way or the other - whether to take the plunge?
I like reading on #eink - but I crave a bigger screen. I don't handwrite if I can help it.
Perhaps there's a bigger read-only device I should consider?
