Sorry there was a bug that caused the button to not be visible on widescreen layouts đ¤Ś
Just pushed a fix
Ok fixed! It should be visible now. It was a bug caused by me not testing on a widescreen layout. Thanks for pointing that out!
In the communities tab thereâs a gold âNew Communityâ button at the top right
Not a dumb question at all!
Currently there is no good way of discovering communities. I'm working on fixing that â tomorrow I'm pushing an update which includes a directory of communities on the front page of Satellite
Hmm.. Posts in communities are just regular notes with an extra tag that identifies them as being posted in that community

Topic-focused communities on Nostr combine the breadth of Twitter with the depth of Reddit

consider a NIP-31 `alt` tag here, nostr:npub1lunaq893u4hmtpvqxpk8hfmtkqmm7ggutdtnc4hyuux2skr4ttcqr827lj
love what you're doing here!
I wasnât aware of NIP-31, thatâs interestingâŚ
Itâs definitely important for discoverability that kind 1 clients are able to display notes posted in communities - the way I handled it in the current implementation is to prepend the title/link to the content string, and to automatically insert inline references to events when posting a link to another Nostr web client so that they appear as quoted notes.
I wonder what the current client support is for NIP-31? Could I just put the text with the prepended elements in an alt tag and count on clients displaying that as if it were a kind 1 event?
Definitely want to make sure that these communities donât lead to a fragmented UX between Twitter-like clients and Reddit-like clients.
Hopefully we can have a twitter-like feed with notes that show up properly and have references like âposted in this communityâ
Itâs a great idea
Announcing "subreddits" on Nostr

Hey everyone â my initial implementation of the NIP-172 draft proposal for Reddit-style moderated communities is now live on Satellite!
Want to see an example?
Check out n/satellite - a nostr community I've just created for Satellite-specific questions, feature requests, etc.
Do you have an idea for a community for which you'd be willing to take on the role of founder/moderator?
You just need to decide on a name and fill out the info for banner image, description, and rules. I'm working on creating a directory of communities, but for now, please drop a link to your new community as a reply to this post.
If we can position nostr as a credible alternative to reddit it could be huge.
Here's some screenshots:

That's a really cool site! I was thinking about a nostr-specific directory though, maybe even indexed somehow by nostr itself. At this point it's starting to sound like a package manager. . .
What if we made something like an app store for PWAs on nostr?
So what comes after Feudalism?
The Flightning Network
My implementation is centered around hashtags to maximize compatibility with existing clients. The most important thing to get right is the governance model.
Basically the way it will work on Satellite is that people can start a forum and assume the responsibility of moderating posts with a certain hashtag. Forkability is inherent in Nostr, providing a necessary check on the power of moderators. Moderators also should get paid for doing a good job.
Iâm working on a long form post about this.
