#[0] What’s the projected global temperature increase for 2040 using preindustrial as the baseline ?
From a climate point of view power consumption doesn’t matter, emissions do.
Banking emissions are an order of magnitude greater
Well this doesn’t look good !

It’s not Bitcoin boiling the world

Yet again many unfounded claims about Bitcoin disproved. Such as Dogdyconomists 37,000t of eWaste every year. Only 60,290 Metric Tonnes of bitcoin mining ASICs have ever been manufactured ! Approximately 65% are still in operation, 23.4% are mothballed awaiting the BTC price to rise, electricity price to fall or waiting for winter as they double up as heating.
Now we have ≈ 11.6% or 6,981 tonnes of mining rigs at end of useful life. Of course, metals are THE most recycled materials, & Bitcoin mines are mostly metal.
After recycling casings, heat sinks & copper coils - (the easy bits) - we are left with roughly 838 t eWaste. Remember this is an ALL TIME figure & Bitcoin was created in 2009, ASICs didn’t really kick in for a few years, so let’s divide over say 9 years. We are now left with 93 t/year eWaste, circuit boards and plastics that may be further recycled.
We only have to compare that to 6,600,000t eWaste from TVs / Monitors to see we have much bigger problems. Of course, many of these screens & computers will have come from the Banking & Finance industry - That Bitcoin is offsetting.
Very annoying!
We need an auto cookie pop up filler iner rejecter plugin thing
Could we combine #Bitcoin mining & Atmospheric CO₂ removal #CDR ?
If every ASIC was an S19 110T, there would be 3,000,000 ASICs with a total airflow of 17,512 MT/year
This would take 114,207 years to process HALF the atmosphere

The new 500Wh/kg battery has been announced. Electric planes here we come. So long (and GFY) Big Oil

So, deliberately cheap subsidised US electricity is a possible double pronged attack vector.
1 - Keep hash in where it can be controlled (keep your enemies closer)
2 - FUD ammunition, cheap juice = higher consumption = “Bitcoins boiling the world 🙀”
If they actually cared about emissions, they just drop electricity subsidies & add tax. This would be much better for decentralisation.
Thanks ! Really funny video, gave me an idea-
Bitcoin mining and Direct Air Capture #CCS could be a match made in heaven!
DAC requires large fans & heat to recycle the sorbant that absorbs the CO2. Wouldn’t it be amazing if Bitcoin actually became CO2 negative!

So the problem-
If i had 2x Bitmain S19 XP 141 TH to heat my house, but only want to mine on cheap electricity 10p/kWh for 6 hours at night. This gives me free heating minus hardware.
2mines x 6hrs x 3.01kW = 36kWh . With regular air cooling we’d all wake up in the middle of the night sweating!
Where to dump the heat to slowly disperse throughout the day or evening when we’re relaxing ?I can live with one mine or 18kWh of heat that would partially be absorbed into the fabric of the building. So where to dump the other 18kWh.?
The Bitmain water cooled mines are all 3 phase - not helpful. And specified water temp input temperature of 20 - 40c. Air cooled mines emit air at 40c air. Seems like 40c is the highest water temperature i can achieve without getting to complicated.
I’ll need a thermal mass large enough to store heat something like a tonne of water. Between 20c(68F) & 40c(104F) 1tonne of water will store 23.28kWh - in the house ( that’ll upset the Mrs😅) Fish tank ?
So, how to absorb & dissipate heat energy from an air cooled mine, into a tonne of water? Car radiators? Gravity fed up into the water storage? Huge fish tank(s) full of mineral oil & throw the miners in?

How about running 2 top mines the the cheapest EV rate for 6 hours per night. Nice !

The Fully Charged is the best #EV show.
12p / 4.4m/kWh = 2.7 pence per mile 🇬🇧
10p / 4.4m/kWh = 2.3
£6.76gal / 50mpg = 13.5 pence per mile
@BBC_TopGear use a lot of flowery language to obfuscate the fact they been dead wrong since forever.
