I agree, currently the feed is a bit unbalanced on the right and this could be annoying. I would start reducing the width of the *first* sidebar, as already proposed.

A second step could be total collapse it, when the secondary feed sidebar is opened.

If your are ok with this direction I will mokup a design for that.
