what's it's appeal? I tried it for a while and it seemed to significantly slow me down šŸ¤”

my experience as well. prefer tiling window managers on linux but in macos land I just full screen each app and move between with cmd+left/right.

on macos, computer tell YOU how to use

Wat u think abt Hindenberg report ??

I turned it on a few months back thinking eh, doesn’t seem special or anything, but I’ll try it out.

Haven’t turned it off since. Loving it.

ELI5 Finch!

Basically allows you to group applications and switch between groupings effortlessly.

Maybe I’m messing around in vscode and I want my iOS emulator and terminal open on the same screen

Or Signal + web browser

Or I want several terminal windows open with telegram since someone’s helping me fix an issue with my node

These groupings are made available on the left hand side and you can flip between them with a single click.

Naw. A window manager is even better. Yabai can automatically handle all of that and can be infinitely scripted and configured.

It definitely helps with focus.

What is stage manager?

The one window at a time thing is quirky but definitely a lot cleaner. Thanks for showing me that. The animation when switching windows is slightly annoying but bearable

Doesn’t have to be one, can be multiple windows/apps if you drag others into that particular stage on the left

Many sleeping on gnome.org for #Linux🐧.

And the children that build the machines work like their lives depend on it.

I didn’t get it when they announced it on stage last year. But I’ve found myself using it during coding pomodoros to focus on just a handful of screens. I can’t really code in full screen or split screen because I’m usually switching between IDE, browser, Figma, and command line, so stage manager helps at that scale of 3-5 apps.

Do like macOS. Has been a user for 15+ years! But have now switched to 100% Linux, try out elementeryOS :)

its a comprimise between fullscreen and not - im digging it
