If your client doesn't support pet names by the end of this year, I'm going to begin considering your client dangerous for promoting impersonation.

Great now I suppose we need a BIP or NIP or just the tip for that now too??!?
Isn't it part of the contact list nip or something?
NIP02 has a variant but that form of petnames is (a) not supported in any clients that im aware of and (b) not preferred as
1) the namespace dot notation scheme is non deterministic
2) the petnames are public.
NIP32 labels is an option but thats not how that kind should be used per the nip.
NIP81 is what im using in Corny Chat and recommend to others
ELI5 how do petnames work?
The goal is to let you give a personal petname/displayname/label whatever to a pubkey (or eventid) such that when that user is displayed in your client, it shows the name you set instead of the suggested name they defined in their metadata.
This is consistent with how we treat phone address books or email contacts etc.
Got it. So I can go back to having only one fiatjaf?!
Follows are pets.. Yeah.. that's too 31337 for my blood. 😅🐝
it's just a user assigned label for an npub
nostr:npub1yx6pjypd4r7qh2gysjhvjd9l2km6hnm4amdnjyjw3467fy05rf0qfp7kza maybe it needs a better name like "label" or something?
