Every commit along the master branch is in between versions, and versions have their own branches. Everything in between 0.5.0 and 0.6.0 on master is 0.6.0-unstable. Everything on 0.5 branch after 0.5.0 release is called 0.5.1-unstable. When you get that '-unstable' tag you know you are not on a release.
