I haven't posted about Syria because holy-fuck it is complicated. And happened fast. And I don't have a simple good-guy bad-guy opinion on something this crazy complicated. It can't be explained as a simple US-Russia proxy war, or a simple Israel expansionist war, or a simple Jihad (HTS isn't actually jihadist). All the groups involved are both good and bad depending on which perspective you look at it from.

All I can say for sure is I don't like seeing people die, and I'm glad I'm not there.

well the "rebels" marched all the way to Israeli border, stopped and said that they like Israel ( they literally said that )

meanwhile Israel responded by driving tanks into Syria past Golan Heights which they have already previously stolen from Syria

ZERO CHANCE of "rebels" doing anything to halt Israel's tanks

nothing complicated about this at all. just Israel taking out another regime in the region that pushed back against their expansion.

It is too soon for me to figure out what is true and what is lies. But I heard Israel is not comfortable with Salafi extremists at their border.

yeah sometimes i forget how much crap on X is simply made up by people trying to score a repost.

a notable example of this was that young woman walking around in only underwear in public in Tehran - every person who posted the video on X also added their own caption about who she was, why she did it and what happened to her afterwards. only problem is in every single instance it was all made up.

nobody actually knew anything about her but people can't just say "here is a video that is going viral - i have absolutely no idea why or what is going on here but please retweet anyway" so they all made up stories, each one custom tailored to their audience.

it is kind of sickening how little regard anybody has for truth.

Several speculations in that video:

* Erdogon knows Trump will pull out of Syria and is trying to place himself as the power that will "take over" from the US.

* Israel wanted these forces to come down and surround the inner border of Lebanon in order to cut off arms moving to Hezbollah, so Israel jointly worked with Turkey on this.
