whoever started this trend of using capacitative touch sensors as buttons in laundry and kitchen appliances is going to hell
Discussion
Same with touch screens in cars.
yeah, IMO microswitches and scissor switches everywhere, the kind used in mech keyboards and mice... if you need it to be soft and tactile, springs and scissor, if it needs to be robust, microswitches... membranes and touch panels have no place anywhere near water or where the thing needs to be guaranteed to operate for a really long time
I am ready for humans to rediscover buttons, knobs and sliders.
At least I think they have stopped trying to make everything voice activated.
yeah, i don't think it's ever gonna be kosher to talk to dumb machines, that's why the neuralink... same for hand waving... and touch interfaces have a limited use case, turns out it's more effort than keyboards and mice, and hard to keep the damn screen clean, unlike in movies where everything is so blurry anyway you wouldn't actually see the smears and marks from touch interfaces, it gets ugly after a few days of frequent use
and with LEDs and light sensors and precision machined thingies inside them dials and sliders can become extremely durable and precise
i think they will come back, especially once full optical circuitry really drops
also, never mind neuralink, just takes a few times people getting hacked and receiving spam in their brain and it's over
