Bluesky and Mastodon do allow you to own your identity though it's complex (e.g creating a single user Mastodon instance or owning your Bluesky PDS)

Yep, which unfortunately most people aren't going to do, and it's debatable whether we actually own the domains either when compared to cryptographic keys like Nostr

I understand what you mean as crytographic keys give the user more ownership
