You need to build a following and it takes some effort. I found just being friendly with people has helped me grow a lot here. Reply to GM and GN posts. Make jokes. It's a social network, not a serious discussion only network.

Though I understand if you have a big following already elsewhere not wanting to put in the work to build it up again.
