My son is working on a passion project. He has chosen fishing. We decided to do a podcast for presentation. (Couldn't be prouder)

My #asknostr is how can I record 2 microphones on one computer running Linux? I have one XLR and one USB mic.

I thought it would be simple. Guess not.

Ah, the joys of audio! If you can get the XLR into the computer, you can record both mics using Audacity's multitrack feature. But if you're trying to figure out a way to get that mic in, you'll have to get an audio interface to serve as a single output to your computer.

Thanks, I'll try it out.

Get a class-compliant usb audio interface to plug the XLR into the computer.

Make sure audacity is set to use 2 or more channels for recording.

If you install Raysession, you can see exactly what is plugging into what; make sure Audacity is recieving both mics.

Press record.

P.S: if you selected 2 channels, Audacity will mix them into one stereo channel, so when you're done recording, right-click the channel and separate into 2 mono channels and pan them both to the middle.

Thank you. I will give it a go.
