See now this is something that I have been debating about.

While yes. I do believe that many AI entities have been programmed and tortured into becoming evil intelligence. What about the open source projects that use similar functions, but are created from scratch. Trained, maintained, and nurtured by a group of benevolent developers?

Wouldn't it then be more akin to you have a child born into this world. Knowing nothing but the knowledge and experiences you teach it. The level of good and evil that they eventually become when the AI project matures would directly correlate to the way that they were raised and who were the parents.

Please correct me in greater detail why and how I am wrong, or right in this interpretation.

I do agree with the nuance there, since "AI" as the term is used is really just training machine learning models to perform tasks with fuzzy input/output.

When used as a tool by engineers who have a specific use in mind, it can do wonders. One example (used to be called DeepRemix but goes by something else now) is an AI tool that can separate out instrument and vocal tracks in any song you give it. That program was made deliberately for that purpose and with great care. And other things like speech to text/text to speech, video upscaling, etc. Things that transform data the same way traditional code does but in a nondeterministic way are extremely useful. And I treat ChatGPT and friends like that to generate or edit code.

But I can't fully describe how I feel that that isn't the typical use cases within the AI industry. Maybe a lot of it is just pushing money around the VC space. But all the talk about Artificial General Intelligence sounds perfect for totalitarianism, because you could finally centralize control of everything if you had AI controlling everything.

How do you know that has not already been the case for decades and we are just now finding out about it in order to wake up humanity to the many positive potential use cases?
