I want social media + video to take 90% less of my time than it has the last few years. Has anyone here tried the 30 Day Digital Declutter as described by Cal Newport in his book Digital Minimalism?

just turn off your phone

Inspired i by Cal, I implemented this version

One time per day

- Twitter / Nostr

- news site

And the YouTube whenever there is something specific I'm searching for. No algorithm browsing.

Worked. But after some time i fell back to old habits. Really need to reboot it.

90% less video time probably means you could still get away with watching vids on the crapper. Sounds doable LFG

nope, this is a big issue for me too: I find it's either 1 or 0...that is, I'm either off of it or sucked in longer than I'd like to.

I’m a week into being off twitter and already feel better. It just took up so much mental bandwidth

I just did a social media fast for 5 days and it’s great. But what would make it better is a daily newsletter highlighting signal from twitter and Nostr so I can stay in the loop.

No but this was the a core theme in a recent Demetri Kofinas pod with Tara Burton - Demetri says a big part is turning off notifications on your phone helps, Tara said she bought a flip phone and tries to bring that most of the time she’s out instead of a smartphone.

I deleted Twitter from my phone - but still use a browser to check it periodically- that helped.

100% cleanse it rough. I deleted FB, Insta and Twitter off my phone so I can only use them when I’m on my laptop. Cut down my usage by about 60%. But I’m realizing smartphones are pretty useless without those apps lol
