Remember when everyone laughed at Elon charging for Blue. Now FB too. Next ketchup at McDonald’s.

Wait FB is charging for something now?
Yes, please let my grandma be verified when playing Farmville on Facebook
I think, sadly, the ease of use and collection of Sats over lightning opens up businesses charging more (micropayments) for small items that we haven’t seen the abuse for yet. It’s concerning but is a big negative in my opinion.
I agree. This is all so new. We haven’t seen how it will be truly. monetized yet.
Where I live McD charges 50 cents for ketchup already. Micropayments enable companies to be fairer and more transparent by charging you only for what you use, instead of spreading the cost of ketchup to everybody.
Good point
It’s the nature of the times. Things start off free and slowly go the route of micropayments for the same thing. Most startups are this way. Learned to enjoy everything while they are still free.
Hopefully. But it can also work in reverse. Small payment here, small payment there and it’s easy to lose track of what you’re spending because it’s so easy to do. At the end of the month you’ve spent more than before.
Psychologically making small snap payments is easier than one larger sum.
Just look at Zaps. You’ve likely spent more on Nostr paying for posts than you have on Twitter.
It’s a dopamine effect and feel good too. It’s nothing to Zap 0.20 cents each day. That’s $6/mth. Doesn’t seem like much but it adds up here and there.
Sure, some will spend to much, but overall I think it’s positive
I do think the positives of lightning network vastly outweighs the negative. I’m just not looking forward to exploiting businesses taking advantage of the system. However I want the growth to occur and looking forward to paying artists directly (one case) for their work.
