If you ever wondered what a "crack" was in #coffee roasting, it's basically like what happens to popcorn. This is what first crack sounds like. The roaster drum noise is pretty loud, but the crack is much louder. Second crack is lighter, like Rice Krispies, and you don't usually hear it until you get a darker roast going.
