Alaska was sold by Russia to the US in 1867, so the place is symbolic of a time when relations were better between the US and Russia, and when Russia ceded its own territory and became smaller. It's also the place where Russia and the US meet geographically. I can understand why Alaska would be an appealing place for such discussions. I hope a ceasefire is agreed asap

Russian media has suggested that Trump will come to the US for a second round of talks. Again, this is symbolic - Putin is invited to the US and Trump is invited to Russia. If this does happen, I an very optimistic for a peace treaty

We need more than a ceasefire, and I wish their discussion will lay groundwork for a robust security framework between NATO and Russia. A ceasefire serves no-one's long-term interests, we've been there already...
