Alaska was sold by Russia to the US in 1867, so the place is symbolic of a time when relations were better between the US and Russia, and when Russia ceded its own territory and became smaller. It's also the place where Russia and the US meet geographically. I can understand why Alaska would be an appealing place for such discussions. I hope a ceasefire is agreed asap
