Are any mobile clients handling the data usage disaster? Seems like we need some “low bandwidth” not on WiFi) settings that don’t render every picture/gif that the relay spits at you.

There could eventually be low bandwidth relays that specialize in sending less/more compact but I assume the main user data use is the rendering of media.

Over a month its quite a lot of data. Not so bad on a PC or on Wifi but mobile data it could get expensive quick. I only noticed as I have data alerts on my phone when I go over a theashold.

I've been thinking about this. For mobile users I could see a server that collects all the notes from their preferred relays, filters out the duplicates and sends only the unique ones. Right now if you're connected to 10 active relays you're getting 10x the same events. A service like that could also swap out image urls with urls to a compression service that resizes/compresses the images for the client on the fly. Just thinking out loud here.
