Whats a reasonable stratagy to reduce the data downloaded from Nostr? I noticed yesterday using Iris on my phone with Kiwi browser used over 3gb in 24 hours and I wasnt on Nostr that much (but may have been open in the background). Ive cut my relays from 15 to 9 today and so far its pulled about 2gb down (16 hours) so doesnt seem to have changed much.

We need clients to handle this I think. Some of them are rendering lots of photos that come through even if they never display them to you. Some are loading every single profile gif.

Cutting down on relays can for sure help, but I don’t think it solves the main data use problem. We need “cellular network” (not on WiFi) type of settings.

Are any mobile clients handling the data usage disaster? Seems like we need some “low bandwidth” not on WiFi) settings that don’t render every picture/gif that the relay spits at you.

There could eventually be low bandwidth relays that specialize in sending less/more compact but I assume the main user data use is the rendering of media.

Over a month its quite a lot of data. Not so bad on a PC or on Wifi but mobile data it could get expensive quick. I only noticed as I have data alerts on my phone when I go over a theashold.

Yeah nostros allows you to turn off pictures for global.
