ZAP⚡ or BOOST 🔄
to support the content that you want to see?
you can do both but it does pose an interesting question on what is more valuable for the note creator in the long run.
Boosting* is more important and supportive to the creator because it increases the reach of the note and more people can see it. There is one algorithm that runs nostr and that is time.
When you boost a note 2 hours** after it's been posted, you extend the life of that post another 2 hours and spread it to people who follow you. Boosting increases viralty which can't be bought with zaps. (I think some sites/apps do have a TOP notes which pick out the top zapped posts over a period of time, but it isn't the common way that people browse notes)
When it comes down to how someone interacts with my notes, I'd much rather get boosted then zapped. I very much appreciate every zap I get, don't get me wrong. Coins in my pocket is positive reinforcement to do more of whatever I just did. It is a strong signal.
It does seem counterintuitive to repost a note because it's like "well, I saw it and so many people saw it also and boosted it already. what's the point if I post it myself?" the point is twofold. one, I already mentioned, it makes it accessible to more people and prolongs the note. two, it shows real endorsement and support.
There is no real delete on nostr. The notes you write, the posts you boost (and your typos) are associated with your npub. Your npub is you as a person, digitally. If I see an npub of someone I trust boosting a post of someone else, that is a type of endorsement that can't be bought with zaps.
*boosting is also known in other apps as reposting. when you boost/repost, you're posting the note on your feed.
**2 hrs is an arbitrary number. I don't know the typical lifespan of a nostr note.
