Don't know the answer to the actual question (should be possible!). but correct way to run a server laptop without taking too much space is this (close as much as possible and place on bookshelf for example):

I just realized one of my coworkers uses two monitors and a shut MacBook standing on its side. So it’s gotta be a thing.

Also laptops tend to overheat when running w/ screen fully closed - so this helps for airflow and passsive cooling as well

That’s a great point. Do you think running a Bitcoin core node (and not much else) will make the old MacBook heat up if closed? Or do people just leave their laptop nodes open (or in the A-frame angle) most of the time?

Yeah personally, I'd leave it open somewhat– Especially older models tend to be actively air-cooled.
