Was just talking about this the other day, except this works the complete opposite of how I would expect it to, hehe,
A single tap (like pretty much every other client) to send your default reaction and a long hold ( or double tap) to chose a custom one.

Also, and this is something else I think a lot of new people could use, could you add a hashtag feed? Damus seems to be the only client that had this and I hate them with a passion and refuse to use their software.😂
The reason I say it could help new users, if you are just following hashtags, not sure who to follow, your feed will be populated with only like minded posts and over time you can choose who you wish to follow by those who have the same interests.
As an example, if you are following #coffechain, because you like coffee, and you continue to see the same people in your feed who use that hashtag and you find their posts interesting, follow them. Eventually, when you have enough people to follow, you can switch to the following feed.
Of course you would need an option to add and remove hashtags, but that seems pretty easy for a talented team like y’all. 😁
