Mastodon is a completely lost case, I wouldn't waste time with it.

it was a fun experiment, but it's flawed at its core

I don't disagree. Each one is a McDonald's franchised ruled by an over zealous manager.

It does make me wonder about Hoppe's dream 1,000 Liechtensteins, because I'm not sure it's working out if each mastadon is a lichtenstein.

Perhaps this quote is not a good analog though as it was meant for nations not social media.

Well, if they were started and did not cooperate, they would have starved to death.

Which is exactly what happened to Mastodon. It's so censored and cross blocked that even Twitter has more freedom of speech. So no one uses it.

Maybe but at least it’s federated, and we can annex users from there. They are a perfect target for upgrading to nostr, and atm they have a stronger/larger community so finding a way to bridge them over is a win.

The federation is the problem why it is censored. because the socialist home servers censor whole servers that are not socialist. I'm not exaggerating.

So the right question is - do we want to win these people over? I don't think we need to grow in numbers that badly. I'd rather keep it small and based on some values than have a lot of people.

There are a lot of ideologically aligned people on Mastodon that left Twitter for a good reason. Showing them a better alternative would be great. I want people to have choice. If a subset of those users want to create their own relays and socialist them up - let them.

Outside of that, most of the infosec community moved there and I like to have access to that info as it’s relevant to my work so that’s a very practical issue for me. I’d rather have the problem of having to curate than not having the data available where I want it.

Everyone has a choice, Nostr is not locked out.

If you have a good content there it might be useful for you, although I did not find much good content there (I also follow security).

I am not against socialist relays, the problem was socialists blocking everyone else and breaking the network effect completely. You can't do that on Nostr, which is why it's superior.

Basically the entire infosec community moved from twitter to mastodon, so I’m not sure where you were looking.

But anyways, you don’t think making it easier for users from another platform to come here by making integrations across them is a good idea?

Btw I’m not trying to have a discussion with you about which protocol/platform is superior, we agree on that.

I’ve never looked at mastodon. Where are the infosec rooms?

PS nostr:npub1plstrz6dhu8q4fq0e4rjpxe2fxe5x87y2w6xpm70gh9qh5tt66kqkgkx8j is a client that beings in nostr and mastodon feeds as well as bluesky

Sick deal. Thank you 🤙

assuming you already know, but there is the nostr:npub1d03clrrrma7mlpxm0mz2dehmhkx3nh9rhxqwltgctpwyduztymustepzfs that bridges content between md and nostr

I was looking at it but @openvibe seems like the thing I want

Not necessarily, I'm neural on bringing people. the question is- if you bridge, will they really come?

I mean.. who knows, but it certainly makes it easier. Good to understand that you aren’t interested in growing nostr though.

I am, that's why I'm speaking about it, writing code for it and running services on top of it.

But it's more "you are cool, I've enjoyed interacting with you, please come to Nostr", or " wow , you like this idea we're trying out? please come to Nostr", rather then going to the convention of young communist international and yelling 📣 "everyone move to Nostr now please!"
