Is liking notes without the account holder's knowledge also common on Nostr? A few people who I thought were decent people liked such a note that I am horrified.

And if you automatically like notes from a certain tag, don't do it. The content I'm talking about comes from the most innocent tags possible.

Hoping that wasn’t a #bookstr tag 👀

Unfortunately, yes. There are other tags, of course, but that's where I came across it.

I just checked again, it's not showing up in Amethyst anymore. I think it's been reported enough times (5 times) or something else is interfering. It's still showing up in Primal.

Thanks for the heads up.

Not to my knowledge.

Many users of nostr are definitely not presenting themselves as they truly are. Just like IRL. Why are you surprised by this?

Even if they were pedophiles, I thought they wouldn't reveal it in this way. I wondered if there could be another reason. Otherwise, as you say, it's not surprising that people are not what they seem.

This is also a good lesson: If my gut tells me not to open a video, it doesn't matter who likes it.

Whats a like? #onlyzaps

It's nothing compared to zap!

You see, i don’t see likes on nostr. Damus has a filter where it removes my ability to give or see them. They are a false metric. i feel likes are noise that can easily be mimicked by a robot.

I didn't know until I saw the hashtag #onlyzap. Now I can understand why it is useful 🙏

My screen:

“Likes” are an interpretation by your client. Some clients will allow multiple different emojis as a “reaction” and your client may interpret any emoji as a “like” but if the “reaction” was actually a “thumbs down” then is it really a like? Do you know what the specific “reaction” was?

For example nostr:npub1pld5cfdvvk09a7zpmtt5zln6277gpxw577xrcsdyp9x5h8yfjw6q52x9q2 gave your note “👀”. Which I interpreted as “watching” the note. But my client makes the hearts on the note a count of 1 because of it.

Thank you for pointing out the difference. I use Amethyst, which shows different emojis as reactions. I'm going to say reaction instead of like from now on. In the case I'm talking about, it comes out as a heart.
