OK after 24 hours this is where I am. Is this pace OK or should I worry? nostr:note1x0hl0wjulgwdhqjeef3exjt0d4vwtyra87d7wvvgtws8lde46hnqtpk0w6

It took a few days for me.. didn’t have the laptop running 24/7. It’ll get there

It takes a while sync

It's much slower than average. It will take over a month at that pace. Things get much much worse after 2017. I recommend giving up.

Hey, what is the primary cause of this slower sync?? it's the connection between nodes or the processing power of the machine to validate the blocks while downloading?? I was thinking about run my own node on a old pc, but everytime i remember this I think twice.

I think memory is much more important than actual CPU speed or bandwidth (in most cases). I would guess that if you have less than like 32GB RAM you'll likely struggle to sync because for every TX to be processed there is a high chance of it having to search the disk for the corresponding UTXO and then everything is very slow.

Hmm, i get it, didn't know about this, I'll do more search about this matter, thanks

Really? Damn... :(

It's an old dual core i7 with 8 GB of memory, although I'm writing the blocks on an external SSD. I would have expected it to be enough, if people are doing this with Raspberry Pi's...

It's better if you don't believe me as I don't know enough about this. My worst experience was with a 4GB of memory computer and it took months. In a 16GB computer I never did the IBD, just copied from the another to it, but even that computer was struggling to keep up with the chain, so eventually I had to shut the node down. The segwit blocksize increase was very bad for Bitcoin.

Are you storing only the blocks on an external SSD or the chainstate too? I think if you keep the chainstate closer put the blocks away that will be better. Probably Bitcoin Core doesn't even support that. Anyway, I'll just shut up.
