Never thought about it. Is this a distinction between lightning and monero? Worth acknowledging I guess.
And does a single hop fix this?
you mean does sending the funds another hop mean the original sender doesn't know where they end up?
Sending from self to self once. Like single ricochet thing
yes

If I send to you (A->B)
and then you send on to C,
because I'm the sender I know the address that appears onchain for B
when you spend to C I could see that address appears as an input in the tx.
but I *cant* know if its a real spend or if it's just being used as a decoy by someone else.
but as STN says, knowing that IS valuable information, particularly if you have a lot of it (like a custodial exchange wallet). it would be better if the sender didn't know the address of the receiver at all, as in paying an LN invoice.
2 things.
Firsrly imo this isnt 'tracing'. How do you send to an on chain address without knowing the address..... Im confused about that.
Secondly the comparisom was always monero on chain privacy vs ln privacy iirc. (Saw someone say wait till monero had an L2 to compare it to)
yeah
homie is basically pointing out that, unlike LN, the sender needs to know the address to pay.
which is a legit L2 advantage nobody is disputing lol
but he wants to say shit like this and I objected
