Legends use to be told to eachother as the canvas to pass on data from generation to generation. Now it’s fake news if the story didn’t come from a “trusted source”. Do you think the cavemen trusted “a guy” or do you think stories were decentralized?

Decentralized.
Not exactly the same, but superstition is a super interesting historical thing.
Studies have shown superstitious families who pass the rituals through generations are on average more successful than families who don’t.
Interesting! Wisdom is a real thing though it doesn’t even have to be superstition or legend. Listen to your elders for advice. Today the media would say “don’t listen to anecdotal data listen to us”
I believe there have always been “trusted” storytellers, that are very different than those that control the narrative today.
Storytellers of the past used stories to connect their peole to their shared history, to educate to inspire their people.
Stories told by media and our governments are not used for. the same purpose. Now they are told to manipulate individuals towards some stated goal. This goal could be altruistic or nefarious.
