I used Gentoo as my daily driver on a Sony laptop for 4 years between 2007 and 2011. I appreciate the knowledge I gain of compiling the kernel and every app from scratch, but from a productivity perspective, it was a complete waste of time.
Pick your battles.
you shoulda used arch. arch and gentoo were the only 2nd gen linuxes. and arch is binaries. gentoo is compile

I am not sure if arch existed back then. Did it? It was definitely not as famous as Gentoo.
