They want to be entertained until the trade off they made for it causes direct pain. Then the tools that are available for them suddenly have a purpose.

Exhibit A would be 2020 and the absurdity that was the “pandemic response.” It woke a TON of people up to the concerns over centralization, censorship, and privacy. An insane amount of trust in traditional institutions was lost and likely will be next to impossible to redeem for a huge portion of the population.
