The Americans are going to love tariffs on imports. Did you know that...

* 80% of toys sold in the U.S. are manufactured in China

* 90% of all electronics are imported.

* Approximately 14% of all food is imported. 44% of that is fruits and nuts, 35% is vegetables, 45% of sweeteners.

* 25% of vehicle parts are imported by the industry plus roughly 50% of all cars are imports.

* About 80% of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) are imported.

* Over 90% of clothing and footwear are imported.

* 35-40% of its crude oil is imported.

* Around 75% of furniture and home decor are imported

* Nearly 100% of its rare earth elements are imported.

But they don't need world, world needs them. 😅

It seems like everybody (the rest of the world) is fed up with U.S. and they think tariffs are stupid (I have no clue by the way). And trump is an idiot leading to the demise of U.S. Ok, in that case why is everyone so upset. It seems they should be happy that an isolated poor bankrupt America is just around the corner, right? No problem the world wins! No?

70 years of neo-liberal programming does a number on world views.🤷

great time to get into 3d printing

also check out jonathan levis channel, https://youtube.com/@thenextlayer?si=Ug3w9N-5VtMT2gd4

started watching it and then found out hes a bitcoiner also 😆

also, great time to stack sats instead of buying new "useless stuff"

Devils advocate is this will bring to light our reliance on imports and cause a shift of manufacturing in country vs outsourcing the labor side. Especially business that are us based but outsource everything.

Hopefully because if not then the increased cost of living caused by inflation was only the beginning.

Maybe it is to deflect focus on the real cause of inflation.

Seeing other countries step back and agree with purposals has shown we are a needed consumer in the market. We will probably see an big increase in our energy market also. I am hoping on bigger monopolies being tested and causing them to cooperate and price things equal to what other countries are getting them at.

I'll go out on a whim and blindly guess that USA is going to be just fine... better than ever.

....archive this

Sure no problem. USA does whatever the hell it feels like nothing ever happens until it does.

It’s brilliant

for those who'll be able to afford this, absolutely.

No one can really afford this

What is imported that we must have? It is largely superfluous consumer goods the debt economy requires to stay afloat.

All of this can be produced in the US, and by in large don't represent things Americans need.

- Americans have enough toys to last another century.

- Americans don't need any more electronics.

- most of the foods imported are processed. Americans will be healthier for reduced imports.

- Americans car companies can easily produce parts here.

- dependence on pharmaceuticals are killing Americans. Besides, they can be produced here.

- American closest are full of clothes people don't wear. They will be fine.

- If we open up "national" lands for oil drilling, we will be self-sufficient.

- Americans don't need more furniture. And what we do need, the Amish will gladly build for us.

- we can get our rare earth materials from Greenland. We don't need nearly as much of they stuff as the media pretends.

It comes down to leverage. We have it because we can produce or do without most of the stuff on this list.

can, but isn't. You guys even send your chicken to China to get "processed".

That's a concession. Tyson can easily process it here.
